Kiln Rental Rules

1. Operation
   • The kiln will only be loaded, unloaded, and operated by the owner. Renters may not access the kiln or make any adjustments during the firing process.
   • Items must be ready for pickup only after the kiln has fully cooled, typically within 24–48 hours of firing.
2. Material Requirements
   • Only commercially purchased clay bodies and glazes are allowed.
   • No homemade clays or experimental materials that could cause damage to the kiln or shelves.
   • All glazes must be labeled non-toxic and appropriate for the firing temperature (Low Fire: Cone 06–04; High Fire: Cone 5–10).
3. Preparation of Work
   • All items must be bisque-fired before being glaze-fired, unless otherwise agreed upon.
   • Pieces should be completely dry before firing; wet or damp items will not be accepted.
   • Ensure the bottom of all glazed items is free of glaze to avoid sticking to shelves.
4. Damage Responsibility
   • Renters are financially responsible for any damage caused by their work, including:
     • Glaze drips that damage shelves or kiln walls.
     • Cracked or exploded pieces that damage shelves or elements.
   • Costs will include repairs, replacement parts, and/or labor.
5. Scheduling and Pickup
   • Rentals must be scheduled in advance, with clear communication of firing requirements (low or high fire).
   • Finished pieces must be picked up within 48 hours of notification. Unclaimed items may incur a storage fee or be discarded after 30 days.
6. Prohibited Materials
   • Toxic, lead-based, or unsafe glazes are not permitted.
   • Do not submit work with experimental or untested materials without prior consultation.
7. Payment and Refunds
   • Full payment is due at the time of booking.
   • Cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance will receive a full refund.
